Ulla Hedner came to Novo Nordisk in 1983. But the story really starts many years earlier when she worked here in the coagulation clinic at the University Hospital in Malmø in Sweden. She specifically took interest in a small group of patients with coagulation disorders who could not be helped by conventional treatment. Here in 1972 Ulla Hedner met a boy by the name Johan. He easily developed bruises and got bleedings in the joints. His family did not understand why.
A meeting with Ulla Hedner changed life for Johan and his family. Johan was diagnosed as a haemophilia patient and was given factor 8 concentrate. Some time afterwards it was found out that he did not respond to factor 8 and inhibitors were diagnosed. Recently Ulla Hedner met with Johan’s mother for the first time in many years to recount the time when Johan was very sick.
