Government
The form of government in Venezuela is federal republic. Venezuela is divided into 25 states and a federal district (Caracas). Venezuela became self governing dominion on July 5, 1821. She adopted the constitution on December 30, 1999. Parliament is unicameral and known as Congress. Congressmen are elected on the basis of direct voting for the term of five years.
Constitution has vested tremendous power into President. He is the head of government and chief of state. He is authorized to take all the important and crucial decisions required for the welfare of the country. He presides over the meetings of the Cabinet. Cabinet encompasses council of ministers. Council of Ministers is appointed by president. President along with Council of Ministers constitutes executive body of the government.
Power of government is distributed among executive, judiciary and legislative body. President and Council of Ministers form legislative branch. Congress constitutes legislative body and Supreme Court comprises judicial body of the government. Panel of 23 judges are there in Supreme Court, who are appointed by President on the recommendation of Congress.
