Geography
Ukraine is one of the largest countries in Eastern Europe, lying between Russia, Belarus, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Moldova. It enjoys a varied coastline of 2 782 km consisting of stunning white beaches and rocky shores. Kyiv (Kiev) is the capital city. Other major cities are Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Lviv. Odessa is one of the largest ports in the Black Sea.
The vast majority of the country consists of grassy, fertile plans and plateaus. The only mountains in Ukraine are the The Carpathian Mountains in the west and the Crimean Peninsula in the south. The highest Carpathian peaks ("Hoverla" at 2061 m. and others) are barren and alpine.
Ukraine has many rivers including the Dnipro (Dniepr), Pivdennyy Buh ("Southern Buh"), Dnister, Siverskyy Donets, Desna and Dunay (Danube), All the rivers in the country flow into the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.
