Geography
Spain is the second largest country in the EU with a total surface area of 510,000 square kilometres. Located in Southwest Europe it occupies most of the Iberian Peninsula, and its territory includes Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea and Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean.
Madrid, Spain’s capital city stands in the centre of the country. Other important cities are Barcelona, Cordoba, Granada, Zaragoza, Seville and Valencia.
Spain is mountainous; while some of the land is semi-desert. The country has a long coastline and its largest rivers include Ebro, Duero, Guadalquivir, Guadiana and Tagus.
