Form of government that exists in Republic of Korea is Parliamentary democracy. Parliament is unicameral with legislative assembly having 299 members.
Presidential system operates in Republic of Korea. He is the most powerful person in the government of Republic of Korea. He is head of state. He presides over the meetings of Council of Ministers and decides all the policies of government. However, presidential election has been facing rampant political irregularities for over several years.
Constitution of South Korea was established in 1948. Spirit of the constitution was adopted from constitution of America as presidential system and role of Prime Minister. Constitution is sovereign power. All the functions of government are guided by constitution. President posses all the right to exercise power and Prime minister has relatively less power. Prime minister is appointed by President. Prime minister has right to assist President and recommends him in the appointment of council of ministers.
Legislative, executive and judiciary are main branches of government. Judiciary consists of Supreme Court, High court and lower court. These judiciary systems operate at different levels. |
