Geography
South Korea is a peninsula protruded into Yellow Sea and Sea of Japan. Most of the country is mountainous and hilly, particularly eastern part of South Korea. Mesmerizing landscapes are significant tourist points. Taebaek Mountain dominates the landscape.
Country’s highest point is Mt. Halla-san, an extinct volcano located on the Cheju Island. Southern and Western parts are mostly coastal plains. These Southern and Western coastal plains are flanked by thousands of tiny islands and islets lying off in Yellow Sea and Sea of Japan. Main cities are scattered along coastal plains. Land is not arable. Significant rivers include Kum, Han and Naktong. |
