People
Until 1991, Law was discriminatory and racial demarcating people into black, white, colored and Asian category. Such discrimination has engrossed somewhere deep inside the mind of the people and they still view themselves as deprived section from mainstream. Around 80% of the total population is of black people who are short in texture and with short curled hair and flat nose. Blacks are basically the ethnic inhabitant of the country. However, whites are descendent of Dutch, Spain, Portuguese, and British settlers who began arriving to the country in the 17th century and comprise 10% of the total population.
Now, such law has been abolished and the country is in transitional phase to establish nondiscriminatory, nonracial system that boasts equality. Education is also in transitional state as country is struggling to create a uniform educational system. Until discriminatory law, the quality and quantity of education varied significantly across different races. Government has initiated effective steps to bring uniformity among all the communities and consolidate and bond them with a same string.
Culture
Culture of South Africa is contrasting and exuberant. Due to its cultural diversity, South Africa is referred as Rainbow Nation. Blacks are the indigenous group of the country and conflict started between Blacks and Whites after European people arrived here and went into continuous subjugation of ethnic groups.
People of South Africa are food aficionados. Cousin is relatively spicy and tropical in test. Favorite cousin of modern South Africa is chicken, limes, garlic, ginger, chili, tomatoes, onion and lots of spices. Dishes prepared spicy curry is most popular among indians settled in South Africa.
Total population of the country is 45 million, out of 45 million 35 million of the population is of Blacks, 5 million are Whites, 3 million colored and 1million indian. Effect of AIDS in South Africa is widespread culminating in drastically bringing down the life expectancy rate of the people in the country.
