The Country History
Khoisan community is considered to be the indigenous and oldest surviving group of the country. Khoisan settled in the western region of the country, while eastern coast was occupied by Nguni some 1500 hundred years ago. Black South Africans are supposed to migrate from central Africa and settled down in Transvaal region of the country.
In 1488, Portuguese arrived at the Cape of Good Hope of South Africa in their expedition to explore Atlantic Ocean. Portuguese were the first European settlers to arrive here. Over the subsequent years, Dutch, German and British settlers arrived here and established their settlements. British Company took control over South Africa.
After continuous subjugation, ethnic people of South Africa engaged into long struggle for freedom against British Company. Along with holding struggle for freedom, they had begun to entangle into another type of long existing problem. This problem was racial discrimination, as Whites arriving from European countries had made discriminatory laws depriving the Blacks, who were the native of the country, from all basic rights.
Until 1991, the discriminatory law was prevailing in the country. In the subsequent years, government has taken effective initiatives to improve delivery of essential social services and to bring uniformity in the constitution of the country. Programmers’ to establish equality among all racial groups are ongoing.
