Portuguese culture is a reflection of various foreign cultures. It is greatly influenced by the Latin, Visigoth and the Muslim culture. Literature and Poetry are important artistic expression in Portugal. Besides that some local handicrafts such as leather goods, ceramic works, woodcarvings, embroidery, and porcelain works, china utensils, cork products, crystals, glassworks etc. are also practiced in various regions of Portugal.
Portugal is very popular for its music. Among the modern music forms rock and hip-hop are very popular. However the traditional music and folk music are also practiced in various parts of the country. The folk music ranges from very lively songs and dances to sad laments. The most well known group is the Madredeus, famous all over Europe. Fado is the popular melancholic song that originated in the 18th century. Amalia Rodrigues was the most famous Fado singers of all times.
