Climate
Marked seasonal and regional variations within temperate limits characterize the climate of Portugal. Generally winters are mild, summers hot, while spring and autumn are warm with strong winds and frequent rainfalls.
The annual mean temperature in Portugal is 16°C (61°F). In the north, an oceanic climate prevails with cool summers and rainy winters and occasional snowfall. The central region has a mixture of Atlantic and Mediterranean elements with hot dry summers and cool, rainy winters. The southern regions have very dry climate with mild winters and rainfall not exceeding 50 cm along the coast.
