Geography
Lithuania is located on the eastern shore of the Baltic Sea, bordered by Latvia, Belarus, Poland and the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad. Its capital city is Vilnius. Other cities include Kaunas, Klaipeda, Siauliai, Panevezys and Alytus.
The country's terrain is mostly low-lying with some hills. The moraines create the highest area of Lithuania. Among these the tallest hill, Aukštojas Hill is about 294 meters. Forests cover about 30 per cent of the area. The country also boasts of more than 700 rivers and about 3000 lakes. The longest rivers are the Nemunas, Neris and the Venta. |
