Geography
The island is located in the Pacific Ocean and lies to the east of China, Korea and Russia. Geographical distribution of the island is such that country experiences frequent earthquake. It is located in the region where several tectonic plates meet. Although it comprises several thousands of islands, Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu accounts for 97% of the total landmass.
Japanese cultivate a number of beautiful flowers like the chrysanthemum. Fish are found in plenty and are not only eaten but also used as manure. Rice, Soya beans, mulberry, wheat, barley, rye are chief agricultural products.
Major destruction is caused by occasional typhoons. Typhoons are phenomenon of extensive winds of up to around 200 km/h over Northeast Pacific Ocean. It leads to major destruction with substantial rise in sea level and torrential rainfall.
