Climate
Australia is a Continent of dramatic landscapes as it shows sheer change in climate as you move from one part of the Continent to another. Western part is widely deserted or semi-arid and it covers interior portion of Continent. Weather is pleasant along south-eastern temperate climate. While northern Australia which comprises Queensland and Northern territory enjoys tropical climate. Tropic of Capricorn is considered to be the main cause for such variation in climate as Australia is bisected by tropic of Capricorn. Much of the Australia remains closer to the equator. Weather is predictable in tropical regions. In ``winter'', typical daily maximums are from 20 to 24 degrees Celsius and rain is rare. The beaches and tropical islands of Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef are perhaps at their most pleasant at this time of year. Further south, the weather is less dependable.
Climate is considerably affected by El Nino. El Nino refers to extensive warming of central and northern Pacific Ocean. It sustains for around 12to 18 months. El Niño events occur about every four to seven years. This event is associated with sustained drier conditions and reduced rainfall. Tourism and other industry suffer vulnerability in the years of El Nino. They are a natural part of the climate system and have been affecting the Pacific Basin for thousands of years. In fact, Pacific Ocean controls many climate features in its region. Further, this event is connected with a climatic phenomenon which is called south oscillation. South oscillation is major shift of warm air between Asian and Pacific Ocean which in its extreme phase known as El Nino.
